Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Using the Canadian Dental Care Plan for your child's dental care in Waterdown. What CDCP covers for children and how it works at our office.

Dental Care Without Private Insurance

The Canadian Dental Care Plan helps cover the cost of dental care for eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance. Children under 18 are covered, which includes every patient we see. Waterdown Kids Dentistry is a participating CDCP provider and we welcome all eligible patients.

What CDCP Typically Covers for Children

Coverage generally includes preventive and diagnostic care such as exams, cleanings, fluoride and sealants, along with restorative treatment including fillings and extractions. Some services need pre-authorization. Exact coverage and any co-payment depend on your family’s income band, so we will confirm the specifics with you before treatment rather than after.

Specialist Fees and CDCP

One thing worth understanding upfront: CDCP reimburses at its own established rates. As a pediatric specialty practice, our fees follow the ODA Specialist Fee Guide, and there can be a difference between the two. We will always show you that difference in writing before treatment begins. If it creates a barrier, tell us: there is often more than one clinically sound way to approach a problem.

How to Apply

Applications are made through the Government of Canada. Once approved, Sun Life issues a member card. Bring that card to your child’s first appointment and we will take it from there. If you are unsure whether you qualify, call us, we help families work through this regularly.

Does CDCP cover the full cost?

Not always. Depending on your income band there may be a co-payment, and specialist fees can exceed CDCP rates. We will give you the exact figure in writing before treatment.
