Children’s Fillings & Crowns

Tooth-coloured fillings and durable children's crowns to restore damaged or decayed teeth, gently and comfortably. Waterdown: (289) 799-3355.

Restoring Teeth, Gently

When decay has gone past the point where it can be arrested, the tooth needs restoring. Done well, and with a child who has been properly prepared, this is a straightforward and comfortable appointment. We explain each step in advance using words that do not frighten children, and we use topical anaesthetic before any freezing so the first sensation is never a sharp one.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings

Composite fillings are bonded directly into the cleaned cavity and matched to the natural shade of the tooth. They are mercury-free, conserve more healthy tooth structure than older materials, and are essentially invisible. Most single fillings take fifteen to twenty minutes.

Children’s Crowns

When decay is extensive (or after pulp therapy), a filling will not hold. A crown covers the whole tooth and lets it survive until it is naturally lost.

Comfort During Treatment

Laughing gas is available for any restorative appointment, and for children who need more, oral sedation or sleep dentistry can be arranged. No child should have to white-knuckle their way through a filling.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Will my child need freezing?

Usually, for anything beyond a very shallow filling. We apply a numbing gel first, and most children describe the sensation as pressure rather than a pinch.

How long does the numbness last?

One to three hours. Watch that your child does not chew their lip or cheek while it wears off, this is by far the most common post-appointment problem.

Why a crown instead of a filling?

A large filling in a small tooth simply fails. A crown lasts until the tooth is lost naturally, which saves your child from repeat treatment.
